Hast Thou Slain the Jabberwock?

'Hast Thou Slain the Jabberwock' is an edgy black and white rendering of the selected images from the same series. Inspired by Lewis Carroll's poem 'Jabberwocky', it deals with themes of human violence, particularly that of men, and environmental degradation even in the small pockets of nature reserve we parcel off from 'development'.

It also echoes memories of my childhood growing up on the outskirts of Manchester and resentment at the impossibilities of ever 'walking free' as a woman - even with a dog - and 'slaying fears' of male violence. Local attacks on women were whispered about in private - as proof that women should not walk alone.
