Humboltephant digital painting
In Procreate from sketch, using colouring and blend modes. My aim was to make the creater as scary as possible - Humbolt squids are very fearsome creatures as they devour their prey. But make the face more like an elephant.
Procreate. Manipulating the original sketch using different colour backgrounds and overlays and different blend modes. The aim is to make the image of a voracious flower both beautiful and scary/ghostlike in the deep.
Pencil sketch of Humboldt squid - looking like a Fuchsia-type flower.
Photoshop. Masking the sketch and combining with the photoshop manipulations of the photo. Then experimenting with different colours and shading. The aim was to get a detailed digital sketch that made the leaf joint look like an insect lobster.
Pencil. Sketched in the lobby from life. This enabled me to really observe and simplify the lighting.
Scanned drawing with increased clarity and contrast in Lightroom.
